Introducing...Our Amazing Ma and Pa Couples and Company Captains

We are blessed to have some terrific Ma and Pa couples.  No matter what trek family you end up in, you are going to have a wonderful experience!

Tommie and Lisa Armstrong, Ladera Ward
Tom is from Ruidoso, NM and Lisa is from El Paso, TX.  We have been married for 29 years.  We moved to Albuquerque in February 2015 and attend the Ladera Ward.  We have 5 children ranging in ages from 13 to 27.  Tom works in the grocery business and Lisa is a federal employee.  Tom enjoys steel and wood working.  Lisa enjoys traveling.  We both enjoy spending time with our family and have recently developed a love for cruises.

Ray and Jenny Haltli, Ladera Ward
Ray and Jenny Haltli have been married for nine years and have a total of four children.  Ray grew up with his 10 siblings playing soccer and skiing in North Dakota and then in Eden, UT.  Jenny is a native Washingtonian but spent most of her childhood years playing soccer in Albuquerque and making art.  Ray attended Weber High School, DeVry University in Phoenix, and then UNM.  He is now an electrical engineer at Sandia Labs.  Jenny graduated from Manzano High School and then BYU. She taught at the MTC, middle and high schools for 11 years before opting to stay home with their babies.  Both Ray and Jenny are returned missionaries and speak Spanish.  They are avid skiers, hikers, and gardeners and spend any free time they have out in nature.  Additionally, Ray enjoys geeking out about technology, doing yoga, and engineering home improvement projects.  Jenny loves reading, watching obscure documentaries, and working on writing projects to amuse herself and a handful of others.  Ray and Jenny are enthused about going on Trek and look forward to meeting their pioneer children.

Danny and Laura Brown, Ladera Ward
Danny grew up in Carlsbad, New Mexico and Laura grew up in LaPlata, New Mexico.  Laura went to NM State University in the fall of 1996 and Danny went on his mission to Belo Horizonte, Brazil in the winter of 1996.  They met and had a brief courtship during the Spring semester of 1999 at NMSU and married in the Mesa, Arizona temple in June of that year.  They were blessed with a Kyle in September of 2000.  Laura has a dual degree in Special Education and Elementary Education and Daniel has a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.  By the time they graduated, Kaitlyn and Karissa had also joined the family.  From Summer 2004 to the present, Daniel has worked at Sandia Labs, while Keowyn, Kassidy and Kaden have also joined the family.  Laura took 10 years to raise the children at home but has since returned to teaching and is now currently employed as Special Education Coordinator at a charter school in Albuquerque.  They are looking forward to the spiritual and exciting experience of being a "ma" and "pa" on trek.

Matthew and Julianne Kress, Ladera Ward
Matthew grew up in West Jordan, UT. He served a mission in Honduras and studied astrophysics at the University of Utah.  Julianne was raised in a suburb of Denver, CO.  She served a mission in Miami, FL and studied  linguistics at BYU.  They met in a singles ward the summer before Matthew's last year of undergraduate school and were married in the Salt Lake Temple in November 2007.  Matthew earned his Ph.D. in particle physics at Purdue University in Indiana, and now works at Sandia National Labs.  Julianne is a full-time homemaker.  They have three kids, Hyrum (10), Abraham (8), and Mercy (5).  More than anything, the Kress' love to be outside.  They enjoy hiking, hunting, fishing, shooting, and camping.  Some of Matthew's other hobbies include woodworking, 3D printing, and guitar.  Julianne enjoys quilting, baking, and digital journaling.  They are a fun pair, with a deep commitment to living the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  They look forward to having a great experience with their trek family!

Mario and Michelle Cortez, Sage Ward

We both grew up in Albuquerque's South Valley, graduating from Rio Grande High School and the University of New Mexico. We met while attending church in the Sage Building, but in different wards.  After Mario graduated high school, we became closer friends and then dated after Michelle returned home from her freshman year at BYU. Michelle decided BYU was too far away from Mario and moved home to attend UNM.  We were sealed in the Albuquerque, New Mexico Temple the summer of 2002.  We have a lot of fun together and laugh alot.  We love music, movies, and being active.  We like going for runs, hikes, swimming together and eating good food afterwards.  We also enjoy traveling and visiting new places while looking for new places to eat.  Most of our adventures involve food or trying to obtain food and taking selfies in the meantime.  We like visiting National Parks, jeeping, going to big cities, historical sites, and other countries.  We are up for all traveling adventures as long as there is a hotel for the night for Michelle.  Mario is still trying to convince Michelle that camping is fun, but it's no pool or beach.  So far he settles for day trips to the mountains.  This should be fun.  ;)

Carlos Lopez and Ludmila Santiago, Rio Grande Ward
Carlos and Ludmila were born and raised in Puerto Rico and have been married for 21 years.  They moved to Albuquerque soon after getting married, when Carlos started working at Sandia National Labs.  They have three kids: Carlos (20, Angelica (18) and Armando (16). Carlos and Ludmila attended different colleges in Puerto Rico for their undergraduate degrees, and Carlos attended The University of New Mexico to earn his Master's degree. Carlos is a mechanical engineer and Ludmila is an accountant.  In their free time, they like spending time with their kids by watching movies, going out for ice cream, and doing projects around the house.  They enjoy traveling, especially to Puerto Rico to visit their relatives.  This will be the third trek Carlos attends and Ludmila's second one.  They are excited to meet and interact with the youth at this year's trek.  They also look forward to help make this year's trek an enjoyable and spiritual experience for everyone.

William and Dorothy Greenwood, Valencia Ward

Bill and Dorothy Greenwood both grew up in the Phoenix are.  Bill lived in Phoenix and Dorothy in Mesa.  They both served missions in South America, Bill in Peru, and Dorothy in Ecuador.  They met at the Arizona State University Institute of Religion after Dorothy's mission and were married in the Arizona temple.  Bill got his Bachelors at ASU in Mechanical Engineering and Dorothy in Elementary Education.  After their marriage, their family grew rapidly.  Six children later, Bill decided to go to graduate school.  He ended up at BYU, where he earned his Masters and Doctorate degrees which led the family to New Mexico and a job at Sandia National Laboratory.  Three more children were added to the family.  Bill and Dorothy have now been in New Mexico 32 years and their family has expanded to include 8 spouses (of their children) and 33 grandchildren.

Joe and Stephanie Hunt, Los Lunas Ward

Joe and Stephanie Hunt are both from Reno, Nevada and were sealed in May 2000 at the Reno, NW temple.  After meeting each other in middle school, Joe was later baptized his senior year of high school after being introduced to the gospel through Stephanie's family.  Fun fact - the Hunts were the second couple sealed there!  They have five children Macayla (17), Elijah (16), Austyn (13), Everett (11), and Grace (9).  Over the next eight years the Hunts moved around the country during Joe's active duty military career with the U.S. Marine Corps.  To date, the Hunts have lived in six states, traveled coast to coast three times, have been to almost every Church history site, and visited 38 of the 50 states.  Joe and Stephanie enjoy camping and the outdoors, staying physically active, doing family history, serving in the church and creating memories with their children.  Some of the places they would like to see with their family include: Washington D.C., Voyageurs National Park, and although they have already lived in Rhode Island and experienced New England culture - they hope to make regular visits back.  They have a strong testimony of the Restoration of the gospel and look forward to sharing it with the youth of the Los Lunas, NM Stake.

Justin and Ruth Talley, Los Lunas Ward
Justin and Ruth both grew up in New Mexico.  Justin spent all of his childhood in Los Alamos, and Ruth spent most of hers in Las Cruces.  They met at the Institute of Religion while both were attending NMSU.  Shortly after being married in the Albuquerque temple, Ruth received her bachelor's degree in Human Nutrition and Food Science and Justin earned his bachelor's in electrical engineering.  After spending a few years in Las Cruces, they moved north and settled in Los Lunas.  They have been blessed with four loud and active boys during their seventeen years of marriage.  Their boys participate in a variety of activities and sports that keep the family busy.  Their family enjoys spending time together supporting one another in various endeavors, being outside, watching movies, playing games, and traveling to visit more family.  Justin likes to shoot guns, sleep, and yell really loud at his sons' athletic events.  Ruth likes working in the yard, crafting, and reading fiction.  Together, we look forward to Trek this summer, and hope to have an enjoyable time.

Nick and Alex Hall, Los Lunas Ward

We are the cool, hip, young couple.  OK, Alex is hip and Nick is cool.  Nick was born in California and grew up in different states like Arizona, Nevada, Texas, and New Mexico.  Alex is from El Paso, Texas, and that's it.  Nick and I met here in New Mexico at the YSA Manzano Branch.  We have been married for a year and four months now (who's counting?).  We enjoy camping, hiking, rock climbing, shooting, serving in the church, and working.  Trek for us is going to be a blast because it is everything we love to do.  We look forward to meeting our family to be able to have the opportunity for all of us to learn and blossom spiritually.  (Fun fact:  Alex's parents are going on trek as well!  Can you guess who Alex's parents are?)
